End of The Premier League Season Awards

Best Player

It simply has to be the Egyptian King Mo Salah. After a relatively quiet season the year before, it looked like his best form was potentially behind him. However, he responded with top class output finishing as the league’s top scorer & top assister.

Best Manager

Whilst Arne Slot has done a brilliant job in turning a squad that looked like it needed rebuilding into a title winning team with limited acquisitions, Nuno is my manager of the year. Forest will be playing European football next year despite only staying up the final day of the season prior.

Best Young Player

This was a tricky one to decide…

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Dean Huijsen & Milos Kerkez have all been brilliant with the latter pair seemingly heading to Real Madrid & Liverpool respectively. However, Myles Lewis-Skelly has been the Premier League’s Best Young Player and has a seriously bright future ahead of him.

Worst Refereeing Decision

I’m sure there is some that have slipped my mental net but with the recency and importance of Thomas Bramwell’s decision to rule that Morgan Rogers’ goal vs Man Utd was foul play, this one seems fitting. By blowing up before the ball had hit the back of the net, there was no opportunity for VAR to intervene. At the time, the goal would’ve put Villa ahead with a win being enough to secure UCL football next year.

Honourable Mention:

This is a Premier League review but the decision not to send off Dean Henderson in the FA Cup Final was wildddd.

Best Surprise Team

There’s only one answer here and that is Nottingham Forest. As mentioned earlier, their improvements this season have been extraordinary, just missing out on UCL football by a whisker. Bournemouth also deserve some recognition for a fantastic season which involved some high-profile scalps including a league double over Arsenal that will live long in the memory of Cherries’ supporters.

Worst Surprise Team

Manchester United & Spurs were both contenders for this award but due to Spurs winning The Europa League, the award for worst surprise team belongs to Manchester United. The 24/25 campaign was their worst PL campaign in history, finishing 15th and failing to secure any form of European football for next season. Turmoil on and off the pitch.

Best Goal

This was very tricky. There has been a bundle of worldies that could be worthy of winning this award.

My personal final shortlist was this:

Jhon Duran vs Everton

James Justin vs Arsenal

Bryan Mbeumo vs Spurs

Kaoru Mitoma vs Chelsea

Omar Marmoush vs Bournemouth

After much deliberation my winner is James Justin vs Arsenal. A Pavard-esque volley off the outside of his right boot.  It always looks better when it’s post and in too. Despite the goal’s lack of significance, the technique and aesthetics are enough for me. Take a bow James Justin.

Best Match

Everton 2-2 Liverpool.

The final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park. Tarkowski’s late rocket to equalise, limbs and red cards. As well as a perfect record of 41 wins each & 37 draws.

It just feels right.

Dean Huijsen takes the title here, a brilliant season at Bournemouth which has earnt him a move to Real Madrid. One of the PL’s standout performers in his debut season and still only 20 years old.

Honourable mention to Nikola Milenković who was an absolute rock at the heart of Forest’s defence. He played 37/38 PL games, securing 13 clean sheets and scoring 5 goals. £12 million well spent.

Biggest Flop

The season in general was a bit of a flop in terms of excitement. The title was wrapped up early and the relegated teams were decided early (without any real fight) meaning European football was the only thing of any interest on the final day. The promoted sides in general were a flop, the gap between the Championship and Premier League is increasing every year making it increasingly difficult for newly promoted sides.

Rasmus Højlund also flopped hard this year. After 10 PL goals in the 23/24 season there seemed to be potential for him to come to life this year but that is far from what happened. He failed to influence pretty much every game that he played in and only managed 4 PL goals. There is of course the argument that Manchester United were poor as a collective, which is true, however, that doesn’t excuse just how underwhelming Højlund’s campaign has been.

Also, Raheem Sterling, like did he do anything?

Best Resurgent Player

Jacob Murphy.

Brilliant season. He’s always been a solid performer during his time at Newcastle but, he really deserves his flowers for the 24/25 season. 8 goals and 12 assists. In a team of big names, he was crucial to their success starting 31 times and coming off the bench on 4 occasions. A player who’s hard work is guaranteed but his goal contributions have taken him the a new level for The Magpies.
